PROPEL: PROGRESS FOR PEOPLE

San Francisco has long been at the forefront of progressive policymaking nationally. The first to grant same-sex marriage licenses. The first to create universal healthcare plans, The first city in California to tax TNC’s for public transit. The first major city to reach a $15 minimum wage and the first to mandate paid sick leave. The first in the nation to give renters the “right to organize” and the first to protect renters from AI price-fixing.

Once thought to be radical concepts, these policies have since spurred similar laws across the nation. They are progressive not just because they are rooted in equity and justice, but because they actually work. When the majority of families, workers, students and seniors can share reliable and affordable public services, it’s not a welfare state – it’s a happier, healthier and higher-functioning society.

Progressive policies have proven to affect positive change

While not the only ingredient, accountable progressive policymaking can propel our communities forward to a better quality of life. Conservative policies of corporate exceptionalism, deregulation and trickle-down economics will not solve the societal problems they’ve created over generations. Progressive policies that invest in people, make government more accountable and effective, and honor our shared humanity have proven to affect positive change.

The right-wing narrative that progressive policies are somehow to blame for everything from homelessness to crime is not factual – it’s a distraction from the real work to solve these crises. We hope you’ll find a community of like-minded individuals here at PROPEL who are interested in collaborating, uplifting and nerding out on progressive solutions to improve the city that we all love – so San Francisco can continue to be a beacon for other cities grappling with similar issues.
